About KORU Handcrafted
Hello!
My name is Romy,
and I’m the creator behind KORU handcrafted. Originally from Chile, I spent four years in New Zealand, where I experienced a deep connection with nature that transformed the way I view creativity and life. Now living in the Netherlands, I carry those reflections with me—they shape the heart of everything I do.
I’m passionate about crafting unique pieces from wood and natural fibers, combining my love for both materials in a way that brings their natural beauty into everyday life. KORU handcrafted was born from a desire to create with intention—through slow, mindful processes that honor natural materials and celebrate the essence of simplicity. Each piece I make reflects a journey of connection, balance, and care.
My Love for Wood
There’s something grounding about working with wood. Its scent, texture, and grain tell quiet stories of time and place. I work with various types—including certified birch plywood, solid oak, and reclaimed wood—carefully selecting each for its character, sustainability, and fit with the design.
I love letting the material guide the process, embracing its natural features and imperfections that give each piece its unique character. Whether crafting a clean, minimal design or working with rescued wood, my focus is always on creating something functional, beautiful, and built to last.
Working with wood gives me a sense of purpose and presence. Every piece is made with care, respect, and attention to detail.
My Love for Weaving
Weaving is a way for me to slow down and connect with fibers through touch and rhythm. I work mainly with natural materials, exploring textures and patterns that highlight their essence and beauty.
Each project invites me—and those who join my workshops—to embrace patience and presence, transforming simple threads into meaningful, tactile pieces. Weaving becomes more than making; it becomes a mindful practice that nurtures calm, creativity, and connection.
Through weaving, we find a balance between tradition and innovation—honoring ancient techniques while creating fresh, contemporary designs for everyday life.
Join a workshop & Enjoy time to create and breathe
Taking time to create with your hands is an invitation to slow down and reconnect with what is simple and essential. In my workshops, we explore sustainable materials and their textures, share moments with others, and rediscover a sense of calm through the process of making.
